🕊️ Created Covered: From God-Conscious to Self-Conscious 🤳🏽
The fall did not make humanity intelligent. We were already intelligent, having been made in the image and likeness of God Almighty.
It distorted our sight; shifted our focus.
Genesis 3:7 says:
“Then the eyes of both were opened…”
But Adam and Eve were not blind before they sinned.
Genesis 2:25 says:
“And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”
They were aware.
They were capable.
They were created in the image and likeness of God Almighty.
Adam named the animals (Genesis 2:19). He discerned. He chose. He thought.
Self-awareness existed.
But it was ordered.
God was central.
Relationship was secure.
They were fully known — and fully covered.
They did not need covering.
God was their covering.
They lived in His glory without shame.
Children of God, that is how humanity began — God-conscious, secure, covered.
👁️ What Actually Changed
When they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their eyes were opened — but not upward.
Their focus shifted inward.
They moved from being God-conscious to self-conscious.
They became aware of themselves apart from the glory of God.
Romans 3:23 says we fall short of the glory of God.
That is what happened in the garden.
They felt exposed.
They felt vulnerable.
They felt uncovered.
So they sewed fig leaves together. That’s what we do today, when we have a problem, when we fall short, when things aren’t going our way, we immediately begin to try fixing things ourselves.
Human effort attempting to solve spiritual exposure.
But fig leaves were never going to be enough.
Genesis 3:21 says:
“And the Lord God made garments of skin and clothed them.”
Blood was shed.
Before they left the garden, God provided the covering they could not provide for themselves.
Hebrews 9:22 reminds us that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Genesis whispered it.
The cross fulfilled it.
🌿 Fig Leaves Still Exist
Joint-heirs with Christ, we still sew fig leaves.
We cover ourselves with performance.
With perfectionism.
With achievement.
With control.
With religion.
With strength.
We strive to secure what we think we lost.
We try to earn what was never meant to be earned.
And when that doesn’t work, we sometimes try covering ourselves with substances, which only distorts our vision more.
But hear this clearly:
Performance has never been your covering.
God is.
You are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).
You were created in Christ Jesus for good works — not to earn belonging, but because you already belong.
You are not working your way back into His family.
You were created for His family.
God Almighty — the Greatest Knower of all things — formed you intentionally.
He knew your weaknesses.
He knew your future.
He knew your failures before you committed them.
And still — He created.
1 John 3:1–2 declares:
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are…”
That is covenant reality.
A covenant is a binding promise established by God Himself — rooted in commitment, not performance.
Children of God, you belong, because He created you to belong.
And His purpose stands.
🔥 Trauma Lies. Covenant Stands.
Many of us learned to survive by performing.
We learned to get it right.
To impress.
To achieve.
To prove.
But that mindset is human centered.
Before the fall, humanity was God-conscious.
After the fall, humanity became self-conscious.
Redemption restores focus.
Those in Christ are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).
That means your sight is being restored.
Your mind is being renewed.
Your perception is being purified.
Romans 8:35–39 declares that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Nothing.
Not your past.
Not your trauma.
Not your failures.
Not your distractions.
Who are we to believe we are beyond His reach?
That is pride disguised as shame.
Grace is greater.
Blood speaks louder.
Covenant stands stronger.
👁️ Restored Vision
You are a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).
You are His workmanship.
You are a child of God.
Stop sewing fig leaves. They are inadequate.
You are covered by the righteousness of Christ.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:21
Fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).
Set your mind on things above (Colossians 3:2).
You were created for family.
Not performance.
🕊️ A Prayer to Be Spoken Aloud: Restore My Sight
Father God,
You alone are the Most High God, You are the Alpha and the Omega. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords.
I confess that my focus has shifted at times. I have looked at myself more than I have looked at You. I have allowed fear, shame, distraction, and striving to cloud my sight and distort my vision.
Please forgive me, in Jesus Name.
Forgive me for believing the lie that anything could separate me from Your love.
Your Word declares that nothing in all creation can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Purify my sight Father God.
Align my perception with truth.
Restore my focus to the way it was meant to be — centered on You, secure in Your covering, in Jesus Name.
I lift my eyes to You.
I submit fully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
You are Lord over my thoughts.
You are Lord over my focus.
You are Lord over my perception.
You are Lord over my life.
Teach me to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, in Jesus Name.
Order my steps.
Create a clean heart within me.
Renew my mind.
I receive the truth that I was created for family, not performance.
I belong to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen. 🕊️
