Dust + Breath = Life: Life Requires Living Water đź«—
Baby… let me talk to you for a minute. 🤎
You say you’ve been seeking first the Kingdom.
You’ve been praying.
You’ve been serving.
You’ve been doing the work.
And yet you feel stuck.
Frustrated.
Like nothing is being added.
Let’s slow this down.
Genesis 2:7 tells us:
“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Dust + Breath = Life.
You were not self-made.
You were God-formed.
You were God-breathed.
Life did not begin because of your effort.
It began because of His intimacy.
He leaned in.
He breathed into dust.
And dust became alive.
Now here’s something we must remember.
Nothing that draws breath survives long without water.
And Jesus said:
“Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
He is the Living Water.
So yes — dust plus breath equals life.
But life requires Living Water to be sustained.
And this is where some of us get into trouble.
We start doing the work…
but we stop sitting at His feet.
We start watering activity…
but the seed of the Word is not deeply planted.
We stay busy…
but our hearts drift from intimacy.
And when water hits dirt without seed?
It makes mud.
Mud feels heavy.
Mud feels stagnant.
Mud feels like you’re moving but not progressing.
That’s what striving feels like.
Let’s look at Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38–42).
Both loved Jesus.
Both welcomed Him.
Both were in His presence.
But one sat at His feet.
The other was busy making preparations.
Nothing wrong with preparation.
Nothing wrong with service.
But Jesus said:
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed - or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” - Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)
One thing.
Mary chose the better part.
Not because work is evil.
But because work without Word leads to weariness.
The work becomes mud without the Word.
Now let’s revisit Matthew 6:33 properly:
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Seek the Kingdom.
Seek His righteousness.
Then the things.
Don’t skip the righteousness part.
Righteousness means alignment of heart.
Motives purified.
Desires submitted.
Because you can seek God for what He can give.
But that’s still transactional.
And God Almighty does not desire a transactional relationship.
He desires you.
Some of you feel stuck not because God is withholding.
But because you’re watering effort instead of nurturing intimacy.
And sometimes, if we’re honest, we’ve been seeking God for what He can produce — not for who He is.
Some of you aren’t stagnant.
You’re thirsty.
You were formed from dust.
You were given breath.
But you must stay connected to Living Water.
Otherwise, you’ll keep making mud.
And baby… mud is heavy. (Psalm 40:2-4; miry clay)
Mud weighs you down.
Mud slows forward motion.
Mud drains energy.
And if you panic and thrash?
You sink deeper.
That’s why Philippians 4:6–7 tells us to be anxious for nothing.
Because anxiety is thrashing in mud.
But the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
This is not condemnation.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1)
This is restoration.
Come back to sitting.
Come back to drinking.
Come back to delighting in Him — not because of what He can add, but because of who He is.
The things of this world are temporary.
Houses.
Titles.
Platforms.
Possessions.
None of it fits in a coffin.
But your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? (Revelation 21:27)
That is eternal.
So if you’ve been striving…
If you’ve been comparing…
If you’ve been quietly competing…
If you’ve been watching timelines…
It’s okay.
Just come back.
Sit again.
Drink again.
Breathe again.
🕊🏾 Prayer of Submission and Surrender
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
We come humbly before You.
We acknowledge that we have slipped into striving again. We have measured progress by possessions. We have sought what could be added instead of seeking You and Your righteousness first.
Forgive us, Lord, in Jesus Name.
Forgive us for watering dirt and calling it devotion.
Forgive us for working without sitting.
Forgive us for chasing outcomes instead of pursuing intimacy.
You formed us from dust.
You breathed into us the breath of life.
We are alive because of You — not because of our effort.
Without Your Living Water, we dry out.
Without Your presence, we grow weary.
Without Your Word planted deeply within us, our work turns into mud.
Today, we lay down striving, in Jesus Name.
We release the need to see immediate results.
We release comparison.
We release competition.
We release self-imposed timelines.
We release the illusion that the things of this world define success, in Jesus Name.
These earthly things are temporary. They will not follow us into eternity. What matters is that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. What matters is that our hearts are aligned with Yours.
So, we choose, once again, to sit at Your feet, in Jesus Name.
We choose the better part.
We choose relationship over results.
We choose righteousness over rewards.
We choose Your presence over progress.
Breathe on us again, Father.
Renew us.
Realign us.
Restore the joy of simply belonging to You.
We submit.
We surrender.
We rest at Your feet.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen. 🤎🕊🏾
Stay seated.
Stay surrendered.
Stay drinking.
